A small group of dedicated volunteers from St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church visited Zambia in southeast Africa in the summer of 2024 to assist educators in the local preschools. The students are learning English, the official language of Zambia, in preparation for an English exam administered in the 7th grade. Students must pass this exam in order to continue their education and increase their prospects for better livelihoods. Attendance at government-run schools require students to wear uniforms, which many families cannot afford. The goal of our Walk-A-Thon is to raise funds to buy school associated needs and the fabric and to have the uniforms sewn, thus allowing more children the opportunity to attend public schools and to increase their English fluency. One uniform will cost approximately $4.00. All proceeds from the walk-a-thon will benefit the children of the New Life Center in Zambia. If you are interested in being a sponsor, click HERE.
